The victory completed another dramatic chapter in what a busy run of meetings between the two sides has been, with Sundowns having also faced Arrows three times in the MTN8 over the past few weeks.

Arrows made the perfect start when Sanele Mthanti broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, giving the home side a 1-0 lead and putting Sundowns under early pressure.

The Brazilians responded by increasing their attacking intensity, but Arrows defended resolutely and went into the interval holding their advantage.

Sundowns continued to push after the restart and eventually found their reward in the 77th minute when Junior Dion levelled the contest at 1-1. The equaliser shifted the momentum firmly in favour of the visitors.

With the match appearing destined for a share of the points, Sundowns produced the decisive moment in the closing stages. Teboho Mokoena struck in the 89th minute to complete the comeback and hand the defending champions a valuable 2-1 victory.

The result sees Sundowns move to 16 points from six matches, while Orlando Pirates drop to second on 13 points after five games. Arrows remain on six points from five matches.

For Arrows, it was a painful way to lose after they had controlled much of the contest following Mthanti’s opener. Sundowns, meanwhile, demonstrated once again why they remain among the leading contenders for the Betway Premiership title, showing composure and quality when it mattered most.

The win also extends Sundowns’ impressive league run and provides further momentum as Miguel Cardoso’s side continue their title defence.
